Universal Gem History

In 2009, with the passage of the Illinois Video Gaming Act, Universal Gaming Group and Gaming & Entertainment Management (“GEM”) were formed by early entrepreneurs in the distributed gaming industry in Illinois. When the first establishments were licensed in 2012, Universal Gaming Group and GEM were among the first and best terminal operators to install VGTs in licensed locations. From that point, both operators strove to provide the best service and selection of equipment to their establishment partners.
 
Throughout the remainder of the 2010s, both Universal Gaming Group and GEM built their routes through industry expertise, establishment support, and a constant focus on service to their customers. While neither company was the biggest in the industry, they shared a common value that defined their loyalty to customers: service above all else.

In 2023 we took another big step forward by introducing My Player Perks, the best loyalty program in the industry. Our goal with My Player Perks was to provide partner locations with a way to reward their patrons and build customer loyalty, and their patrons with the best, most rewarding entertainment experience. As we like to say, “Real Rewards Members Want!”

In 2025, Universal Gaming Group and GEM merged to become Universal Gem. Two of the industry’s top Terminal Operators are now operating as one, providing unmatched leadership, service and innovation to help small businesses across Illinois thrive.
 
In 2026, we will take another big step forward with our reintroduction of My Player Perks 2.0, the best loyalty program in the industry. Our goal with My Player Perks is to provide partner locations with a way to reward their patrons, build customer loyalty, and give their patrons the best, most rewarding entertainment experience. As we like to say, “Real Rewards Members Want!”
